About the therapists
Avril Craig graduated with an honours degree in Physiotherapy from Trinity College Dublin in 1995. She initially worked for 2 years in the USA where she was head of physiotherapy in a rehabilitation hospital.. On her return to Ireland, she joined the physiotherapy dept in St Vincent’s University hospital where she worked for 10 years, specialising in Rheumatology, Musculoskeletal disorders and Osteoporosis. She developed and co-ordinated a Bone Health programme for patients with Osteoporosis and Osteopenia. Whilst she was in St Vincent’s Avril also qualified as an instructor in Manual Handling in 1999 and also developed a keen interest in the areas of Lymphoedema, Orthotic prescription and sports specific injuries. Avril was physiotherapist to Barnhall Rugby club for 3 seasons and chairperson of the Chartered Physiotherapists in sports and exercise medicine for 3 years.
Sharon Kelly graduated from Trinity College Dublin with an honours degree in Physiotherapy in 1994. After working in Sligo General for 9 months, mainly in orthopaedics, she worked in the USA for 2 years. While in the USA, Sharon worked initially in a general hospital both in inpatients and outpatients. . The majority of her caseload in these jobs was orthopaedic. On her return to Ireland she began work in St Vincent's University Hospital. In the 2½years she worked there, she specialised in the areas of orthopaedics and musculoskeletal. Sharon also completed her instructor's course in Manual Handling and taught on a regular basis both on the wards and in the classroom setting. Sharon worked with Wanderers Rugby Club for two seasons as one of their team physiotherapists attending both training sessions and matches. Sharon left SVUH in 1997 and has worked in private practice since then. She also worked part-time as a community physiotherapist. While working in the community setting she treated a wide variety of conditions including paediatrics, geriatrics and orthopaedics. Sharon carried out most of the biomechanical assessments and insole/orthotic prescriptions for the patients in that community area.
